The sixth forum sought to explore means of enhancing MSMEs finance through Egyptian banks. In specific, the forum tried to highlight the main obstacles faced by Egyptian bankers dealing with MSMEs; it also stressed the importance of technical assistance that can be provided to the different Egyptian banks in this field through the EBI by giving the opportunity for two important and successful technical assistance models to be presented during the forum.
The forum was attended by a number of representatives from the different SME Units in 12 Egyptian Banks as well as representatives from the Central Bank of Egypt. And during the sessions, the two technical assistance models were presented to show the outcomes of the previous assignments of Mr. Robert Poldermans - an international SME Banking expert – in Egypt. The first one was the Suez Canal Bank’s experience with the “Down-Scaling” model; while the second was the National Bank for Development’s experience with the “Up-Scaling” model. Moreover, Mr. Poldermans presented some International Best Practices, commented on his previous assignments on the two banks and he also stressed on the importance of technical assistance provided by the MSME unit at the EBI as well as its training and research activities.
